Improved Wheel Gages and their Application

IMPROVEMENTS IN COMBINED GAGES W620-1P & W620-2P:

  • Extended reference edge for measuring flange thickness to afford better measuring accuracy.
  • Replace the fish scale with a more useful standard scale. One centered on the front and one measuring from the edge on the back. The one from the edge on the back can be used by a carman for 2″ safety devises and 4″ hand holds.
  • Provide 3/4 and 1 inch holes for shells & spalls.
  • Provide 11/16 Rim Thickness for FRA.

IMPROVEMENTS IN WHEEL DEFECT GAGES W620-1 & W627-2:

  • Make center divider long enough to assure that the gage sits perpendicular to wheel.
  • Provide standard scale on front for measuring slid flats.
  • Provide scale on back for 4″ hand holds and 2″ safety devices.
  • Provide 3/4 and 1 inch holes for shells & spalls.

IMPROVEMENTS IN SIMPLIFIED WHEEL GAGE W620:

  • Provide 11/16 graduation for the FRA.
  • Provide for all AAR Rim thickness requirements.

  • THE IMPROVED WHEEL DEFECT GAGE GREATLY REDUCES THE NUMBER OF CARS IMPROPERLY BAD ORDERED FOR THIN FLANGE!
  • THE IMPROVED WHEEL DEFECT GAGE CHECKS MANY CURRENT REQUIREMENTS NOT CHECKED BY THE OLD WHEEL DEFECT GAGE.
